What a Irish breakfast? The Biggest in Ireland
Left picture is a standard Irish and right the monster Breakfast from Cork
A restaurant in Cork claims to have Ireland's biggest breakfast and if you are able to lick your plate afterwards, it's free.
Now we are all for a decent start to the day here in JOE. The catering here, as you can imagine, is top class and the buffet that greets us in the morning would put the Four Seasons to shame.
But if you are based in Cork, then Tony’s Bistro offers a meal that would probably keep you going for a few days.
The ‘Godfather’ feast is a mammoth plate (more like plates, really) of food. It consists of:
- 8 sausages
- 6 rashers
- 6oz sirloin steak
- 4 hash browns
- 4 slices of black and white pudding
- 2 fried eggs
- 2 scrambled eggs
- 2 bowls of chips
- 3 fried tomatoes
- 1 bowl of baked beans
- 1 bowl of sautéed mushrooms
- 1 bowl of onion rings
- 6 slices of toast
- 3 slices of soda bread
- A bucket of tea or coffee
The cost of that mountain of fried goodness is €29.95 but if you can finish it, it is free of charge, though you will probably have to shell out on some new trousers.
The details are all in today’s Irish Daily Star because Eric Donovan tackled the meal for charity and duly raised more than €400 for the COPE Foundation by finishing the bumper brekkie, but it took him two-and-a-half hours.
“Every mouthful was a struggle,” he said. “There were several times when I felt like giving up but it was definitely mind over matter.”
Eric is still collecting so you can donate here and if you want to try it yourself, Tony’s Bistro is ready and waiting. And if you do try it, let us know, we want to know how you get on.
